The Milwaukee Public Library was struggling with a declining patron count among a younger demographic and the growing perception that libraries are quiet, old-fashioned, solitary establishments that collect books and dust. So we decided to put on a youth rap battle that would help introduce hundreds of teens library and show them that the library wasn’t as bookish as they thought.
Gone is the notion of the sleepy, quiet library, where all you hear is “shush.”
